Weekly GameFi News Review

GameFi Weekly News Review — September 7–13, 2026

Every dated item below is a real event from the September 7–13, 2026 window, linked to a mainstream outlet, the official announcement behind it, or the primary data source it is measured from. Where I add my own estimate, I say so.

The week in three numbers:

Figure What it says
403M Total TRON accounts, passed Thursday, September 10
$5.09M Solana's app revenue in a single day, September 9 — more than any other chain
450,392 Users on TRON's fee-free stablecoin rail by Thursday, September 10
1

Chains and network activity

Two of the window's biggest items were TRON distribution moves — an account milestone, and an integration that changes who can reach TRON's apps at all.

01

TRON's total account count passes 403 million

Thu, Sep 10 · Source: TRONSCAN and JustLend DAO · tron · on-chain-data

TRONSCAN reported on September 10 that total accounts on the network had passed 403 million, days after clearing the 400 million mark. The same source framed the milestone around stablecoin scale, and JustLend DAO separately put TRON's USDT float at $94 billion — liquidity the network's lending, trading and resource-management products all draw on.

Our Take

Account totals are cumulative, not active-user counts, so this is a distribution number rather than an engagement number. That distinction matters for cost analysis: on TRON the first transfer to a fresh address consumes 130,285 energy instead of 64,285 — a 2.03× first-move tax the sender pays — so growth at this pace scales the volume of transfers that carry it. We work the arithmetic in this week's data report.

02

TRON adds MetaMask support across four dApps as its USDT float hits $94 billion

Thu, Sep 10 · Source: TRON DAO, via Cointelegraph · tron · wallet

TRON DAO announced on September 10 that BAI AGI, SUN.io, JustLend DAO and BitTorrent now support MetaMask connectivity through their dApps, extending the largest EVM wallet's reach into TRON's application layer. MetaMask added native TRON support earlier this year; this is the app-side half of that plumbing. TronLink shipped Android v4.22.0 the same day.

Our Take

Wallet friction is a cost players pay in time rather than fees, and it is the one cost no gas comparison captures. MetaMask support lowers the switching cost from "install and fund a new wallet" to "connect the one you have". The other half of the story is the demand base: $94 billion in USDT competes for the same daily energy supply that game contracts draw on, which is why renting at 22–74 SUN against a 100 SUN burn price is a durable market rather than a promotion. The arithmetic is in this week's deep dive.

2

Gas and transaction cost

This window's cost signal came from usage data rather than parameter changes — who paid what, and on which chain.

03

Solana leads every chain in daily app revenue at $5.09 million

Wed, Sep 9 · Source: DefiLlama, cited by the Solana Foundation · solana · gas-cost

Solana applications generated $5.09 million in user-paid fees on September 9, roughly 54% more than the next-closest chain, BNB Smart Chain at $3.3 million, and about one-third of the $15.1 million total across all tracked networks. Robinhood Chain was third at $3.24 million, Hyperliquid's L1 fourth at $1.95 million and Ethereum fifth at $1.52 million. The figure tracks what users actually pay applications rather than transaction counts.

Our Take

The contrast with our nine-chain table is the whole story: Solana leads the industry in aggregate fees paid while charging $0.00023 per game transaction, because it settles an enormous number of cheap actions. Note also that the $5.09 million went to applications, not the network — Solana's protocol-level take that day was about $88,000. The chain-level breakdown is in the cost update.

04

TRON's fee-free stablecoin rail passes 450,000 users

Thu, Sep 10 · Source: JustLend DAO · tron · transaction-cost

GasFree, TRON's sponsored-fee rail that lets users move stablecoins without holding TRX for gas, passed 450,392 users by September 10. The rail covers USDT and USDD — the second asset was added in August, before this window — and JustLend DAO framed the product alongside instant energy purchases and energy rental as the three routes users take around TRON's fee structure, asking its audience whether switching wallets just to save on gas is worth the effort to a regular user.

Our Take

A sponsored-fee rail is the one cost category that never appears in a per-transaction gas table, because the fee is paid by someone else. For a studio on TRON that is a design lever: sponsoring a player's first actions erases the fresh-address penalty from the player's view and moves it onto the operator's cost line, where our persona tables already price the burn route at $195.55 to $32,592.50 a month depending on scale.

3

Games and launches

A quiet week on the launch calendar, with activity concentrated in live-service updates and community programs rather than new titles.

Axie Infinity's Vibeathon closes registration with 20,000 bAXS on the line

Mon, Sep 7 · Source: Axie Infinity (The Lunacian, official) · ronin · play-to-earn

Sky Mavis closed registration for the Axie Infinity Vibeathon on September 7. The two-round online game jam asks individual builders to ship a playable Axie Core game using AI coding tools, competing for a 20,000 bAXS community prize pool, with up to eight finalists advancing to an October production round and 250 USDC in AI tooling support each. Builds are judged 35% on Axie Core fit and 25% on gameplay.

Our Take

This is Sky Mavis testing a pipeline, not shipping a game — no winner, finalist or recognised prototype is automatically entitled to a production slot. The format is the part worth noticing: hosted prototypes on infrastructure the builder controls. A builder iterating on a game spends a transaction on every test loop, which on a gas-free chain costs nothing and on a paid chain costs real money across hundreds of iterations.

06

Maxion ships a September 10 gameplay update to Ragnarok Online Landverse America

Thu, Sep 10 · Source: Ragnarok Online Landverse America official patch notes · ronin · on-chain-data

Maxion pushed a gameplay update to Ragnarok Online Landverse America on September 10, its third patch in four weeks and a cadence set by the August 13 and August 27 releases. ROLA runs on Ronin under a Gravity Co. license and has been live in Latin America and North America since December 2025. Maxion keeps a matching rhythm on its Thai Landverse service, which took patch notes on September 2 and again on September 9.

Our Take

A content cadence is a cost story on a paid chain and a non-story on a free one. ROLA ships on Ronin, where gas is sponsored, so a bi-weekly patch costs the studio development time and nothing in player transactions. The same cadence on TRON or Ethereum would attach a small fee to every claim, mint and in-game trade a patch generates.

Tokens, NFTs and in-game economy

The token side of the window was dominated by unlocks, a repricing inside Solana's app economy, and a staked TRX wrapper reaching a US exchange.

07

Solana's app tokens halve while the network keeps leading on revenue

Thu, Sep 10 · Source: DefiLlama and SoSoValue · solana · economic-model

Tokens across Solana's application ecosystem have lost roughly half their value from earlier highs, while US spot Solana ETFs saw net inflows slow to $5.25 million over four days in early September, down from peaks near $61 million. Network revenue fell 43% quarter-over-quarter in Q2. The chain that led every network in user-paid app fees on September 9 is running an app-token complex that has repriced hard.

Our Take

A chain's cheap fees and a game token's price are independent variables. Cheap gas lowers the cost of running a game; it does nothing for the value of the token the game pays out — and studios that priced reward schedules against last quarter's token value are now paying out more in real terms.

08

Pump.fun and Aptos lead a heavy unlock week that closes with UP

Fri–Sun, Sep 11–13 · Source: Dropstab unlock calendar · gamefi · economic-model

Unlocks inside September 7–13 included 8.96 billion PUMP tokens worth $35.98 million on September 12, roughly 2.27% of circulating supply; 11.30 million APT worth $7.08 million, also on September 12; and 27.18 million UP worth $11.67 million on September 13, 18.62% of float. The largest single event by share of float was ADI, releasing 74.54% of circulating supply on September 9, with NRS at 31.04% on September 11.

Our Take

We track unlocks because they change who can afford to keep paying transaction fees. Two consecutive days closing the week with double-digit float expansions is the kind of clustering that shows up in reward economics before it shows up in price — and the players earning in that token absorb the repricing.

Canary's staked TRX ETF lists on Cboe as Tron Inc. lifts its treasury

Wed, Sep 9 · Source: Canary Capital, via The Block · SEC Form S-1/A · tron · regulation

The Canary Staked TRX ETF began trading on Cboe BZX under the ticker TRXS on September 9, following the issuer's amended S-1 registration. The fund seeks TRX price exposure and staking income, with net staking rewards reflected in net asset value and roughly 20% of gross staking rewards taken as fees. Separately, Tron Inc. disclosed buying 146,638 TRX at an average of $0.3410, taking its treasury above 713.7 million TRX.

Our Take

Staked-TRX wrappers matter to gamers indirectly but materially. The more TRX that gets locked through institutional products, the more the network's staking base shifts — and staking base is the denominator in the 9.59 energy-per-TRX-per-day figure that determines whether self-staking beats renting. This does not change the energy price today; it changes the slope of the curve we re-check every month.

5

Security, policy and infrastructure

The window produced two governance stories and one exploit — on a claim contract, not a game.

10

Hacken flags $91.3 billion of TRON's USDT sitting behind a 2-of-3 multisig

Mon, Sep 7 · Source: Hacken, with Bluechip · tron · security

On September 7 the security firm Hacken published an assessment, produced with the rating agency Bluechip, finding that roughly $91.3 billion of USDT on TRON — about half the stablecoin's circulating supply — is administered by a contract whose privileged functions can be executed by two of three multisig keys. Those keys can mint USDT without a volume limit, pause transfers network-wide, freeze or destroy balances on any address and transfer contract ownership. Hacken found no evidence of key compromise, but flagged the absence of a timelock. USDT scored 3.3 out of 10 on Hacken's cybersecurity scale; Bluechip separately raised its rating from D to C on September 3, after KPMG US audited Tether's 2025 financial statements.

Our Take

A contract's administrative surface is a counterparty risk no fee table captures. The $91.3 billion is not in a wallet two people control — users hold their own tokens — but the switch that mints, freezes and pauses is operated by a narrow set of keys with no delay built in. For anyone building reward distribution on TRON that matters twice over: a pause is a settlement outage, and an unclaimed reward pool is exactly what an attacker goes looking for. Which is the next item.

11

Hemi's Genesis Drop drained of 124.5 million unclaimed HEMI

Mon, Sep 7 · Source: Hemi official post-mortem · security

At 03:36 UTC on September 7 an attacker drained roughly 124.5 million unclaimed HEMI from the legacy MerkleBox contract behind Hemi's Genesis Drop, using a two-million-HEMI flash loan from the SushiSwap HEMI/USDT pool and 63 recursive calls into the claim function. Hemi's post-mortem traces the bug to a reentrancy flaw in a modified MerkleBox deployment that created token lockups before updating the claimable balance. The tokens were sold into Hemi DEXes for about $158,200 USDT and $84,900 USDC, then bridged out through LayerZero. Upbit pulled HEMI from a scheduled listing on September 8, eighteen minutes before the market was due to open.

Our Take

A claim contract is a treasury, and an unclaimed allocation is the softest thing in it: no user is watching the balance, because no user thinks of it as theirs yet. That is a structural problem for every play-to-airdrop programme that leaves a Merkle pool funded and waiting — including several Ronin titles we track. The lesson is testable: if a reward contract can create a position and pay out in the same call, ask what happens when it is called recursively.

Visa opens VisaNet settlement data to on-chain lenders

Tue, Sep 8 · Source: Visa (official) · Dow Jones Newswires · stablecoin · infrastructure

Visa said on September 8 that it will give participating lenders authorised access to VisaNet settlement data so they can assess working capital for stablecoin-linked card programmes. More than 160 such programmes now run on Visa's network, with payment volume on them up nearly 200% year over year, and Visa's own stablecoin settlement volume has passed a $20 billion annualised run rate, up more than fifteenfold from a year earlier. An early model with the on-chain lender Credit Coop has financed more than $2.5 billion in cumulative settlement volume since 2023 with zero defaults across participating facilities.

Our Take

The float behind a card programme is a settlement-cost problem, and the only way to underwrite it used to be a bank's judgement about a young company. Visa's move replaces that with a data feed — the same trade on-chain games make when they route rewards through a contract instead of a spreadsheet. The number to hold onto is the 15× growth, because minimum-deposit floors keep being set by what a stablecoin transfer costs on the rail underneath.

13

Solana Mobile opens a $135,000 hackathon for Seeker mobile apps

Tue, Sep 8 · Source: Solana Mobile (official) · solana · wallet

Solana Mobile opened CLOCK IN on September 8, a 30-day hackathon run by RadiantsDAO with $135,000 in prizes for mobile-first apps built on the Solana Mobile Stack, Seeker hardware and the dApp Store. Ten grand prizes pay $10,000 each, five honourable mentions pay $5,000, and a separate $10,000 SKR bonus goes to the deepest stack integration; submissions close October 8. It is Solana Mobile's third hackathon, after MONOLITH closed in March with 403 completed submissions from 66 countries.

Our Take

Mobile-first is where the fee math bites hardest. A player who opens a game ten times in a session generates ten signatures; on a chain charging anything meaningful per action that is the difference between a habit and a chore. Requiring a working Android APK with the mobile wallet adapter, rather than a wrapped website, is an implicit bet that cheap per-transaction cost is the precondition for on-chain mobile gaming at all.

14

Thailand proposes a $151,000 daily cap on stablecoin transfers

Sun, Sep 13 · Source: Thailand SEC (official consultation) · policy

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission opened a public consultation — approved by its board on September 3 and published in the window — proposing that stablecoin deposits and withdrawals through licensed digital asset operators move only between wallets verified as belonging to the same customer. Transfers from another person's wallet into an exchange account, and withdrawals out to one, would be prohibited. The draft sets separate daily ceilings of 5 million baht, about $151,000, on inbound and outbound transfers, per person, per operator; transfers between two Thai-regulated operators that both apply the Travel Rule would be exempt. Comments close September 25 and no implementation date has been set.

Our Take

Read this as a cost rule wearing a compliance hat. If a player can no longer receive USDT into a licensed platform from a guild-mate or a team treasury, the flow moves to self-custody wallets — where the sender pays the network fee instead of the exchange. That is a quiet transfer of cost onto the user, and on TRON it lands directly on the energy market we price every week.

The week's cost context

Every chain-level number below comes from the same week's measurement; the nine-chain table, persona monthly costs and the TRON route comparison are broken out in full in the cost update.

Chain Cost per game tx GameFi DAU DAU WoW
Ronin $0.0000 298,400 −4.5%
Immutable $0.0000 142,100 −4.1%
Solana $0.00023 194,600 +4.4%
Polygon $0.0204 70,600 −5.6%
Base $0.0406 39,100 +1.0%
Arbitrum $0.0792 40,200 −4.5%
BNB Chain $0.0936 98,400 +2.2%
TRON $0.7388 109,800 +3.2%
Ethereum $2.9150 26,600 −6.3%

The pattern is familiar but the composition changed. Growth moved off the cheap end — only Solana and Base gained among the sub-$0.05 tier, while TRON and BNB Chain added players from the expensive and mid tiers — and the network's decline slowed to −1.4% after last week's −3.4%. The full read is in the weekly data report and the intelligence briefing.

Frequently Asked Questions

TRON's account count passing 403 million on September 10, alongside a four-app MetaMask integration. On the revenue side, Solana led all chains with $5.09 million in daily app fees on September 9. The largest security item was the 124.5 million HEMI drained from Hemi's Genesis Drop claim contract on September 7.

Which chain had the strongest week?

Solana, which led every chain in daily app revenue on September 9 and posted the largest player gain in our nine-chain set at 4.4%. TRON was second at +3.2% in players despite carrying the second-highest per-transaction cost in the set at $0.7388.

Did any game shut down this week?

No tracked game went offline. The closest item was Maxion's September 10 patch to Ragnarok Online Landverse America — a live-service update, not a launch or a shutdown. The week's genuine pipeline news was developer-side: Solana Mobile's CLOCK IN hackathon opened on September 8.

Was there a hack in the window?

One, and not on any of the nine gaming chains we track. An attacker drained roughly 124.5 million unclaimed HEMI from a legacy claim contract behind Hemi's Genesis Drop on September 7 using a flash loan and a reentrancy flaw; Hemi published its own post-mortem.

How much does a TRON USDT transfer cost now?

Burning TRX costs about $2.17 per standard transfer — 64,285 energy at the 100 sun price with TRX near $0.34 — and roughly double that, $4.40, to an address that has never held USDT. Renting at the market's 34 SUN median brings the same transfer to $0.7388, a 66.0% saving. Any guide still quoting 210 sun per energy is out of date by more than a year.
